The Diamond in the Rough is an indoor facility created by the founder of reidy metal, Jerry Reidy. Now three years old, the facility is comprised of three 60 foot batting cages and a full-sized baseball pitching mound. When the batting cage nets are pulled to one end, the space becomes a 3,000 square foot Astroturf infield for practicing taking ground balls.

Local high schools use the Diamond in the Rough facilities when inclement weather does not allow play on their fields. Most of the elite Colorado high school baseball players have worked out in the facility . From what we've seen from the success of these outstanding young players, we can expect many more prospects to come through our doors. The Instructional League coaches have assisted some of these athletes in obtaining scholarships and major league signings.
The Diamond is also home for girls softball teams which play in summer recreational programs and in district-wide high school programs. We would like more coaches in the girls' high school softball programs to take advantage of our exceptional facility to improve the mechanics of the girls. Clinics for girls would sure to be very well-attended just as they have for boys. |
Diamond in the Rough is home to the "Instructional League," coordinated by Mr. Al Bleser. The Instructional League coaching staff has high school, college and Major League Baseball associated experience. Hitting and pitching clinics run from November through March to develop talent from feeder programs in the seventh and eighth grades, through the high school level. The Instructional League supports a fall league which plays at fields located on the Fitzimmons Army Hospital grounds in Aurora, Colorado. This ballpark was developed with money donated by the Colorado Rockies and Larry Walker. In 1999, four teams played against one another as well as against area junior college teams. The fall season ends in mid-November at which time the Instructional League teams attend a showcase tournament in Florida. Our goal is to get a major tournament in the Denver area to draw college and Major League scouts. |
